School Council Conferences take place every year. These events bring together a diverse range of education stakeholders and are an important aspect of ongoing professional development, sharing and networking of Yukon School Councils from across the territory. In addition to keynote speakers, there are plenary panels, training sessions, presentations, information updates and announcements, and workshops on a variety of relevant topics and issues.

Each of the gatherings are of great benefit to School Councils and others interested in the delivery of quality public education, improved student learning and informed decision-making.

2024 School Councils Fall Conference

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2024 School Councils Fall Conference on October 5, 2024.

The conference was held in person at the Yukon Inn as well as virtually.  We were pleased to have school council representatives from 14 of the 17 school councils in attendance at this year's conference.

An integral part of AYSCBC’s mandate is providing professional development opportunities through meetings and networking events for school council members across the territory. During this year’s gathering, we were pleased to sponsor a keynote presentation by Kevin Lamoureux on the topic of reconciliation. Kevin is a well renowned speaker and author of Ensouling our Schools – a book which provides an innovative view of how our schools could be better designed to address the social, emotional and academic needs of our students. The book is also part of Yukon’s education curriculum.

Other conference sessions included a presentation by the Yukon Child and Youth Advocate, Annette King, on the role of her office and the work she is undertaking in support of education. Presentations on the Education Act and Privacy Considerations as it pertains to the work of school councils, were also delivered by members of the Department of Education. We would like to thank all of our presenters for being part of this year’s fall conference and for all school council members who participated in the discussions throughout the day.
